A time to get away, catch up, zone out, mull over… it’s the Senior Big Weekend.
So what happened…………………..
Stepping out into the almost-sunshine of the almost-Welsh countryside on the Sunday afternoon, I pondered what makes the Senior Big Weekend special amid the packed USG calendar. Not as much violence, certainly. Fewer tears, save the one or two stifled sobs of a sixth-former aching for his mother’s homely affection. Only periodic bottom-trumpeting. I even saw one lad open a book. This was it – the pinnacle – surely as close as Urban Saints can get… Civilisation.
We passed a great weekend away: canoeing on the river, chatting at 1am, opening up the Bible and spending time being silent and waiting on God. And, before we knew it, we were coming back to Guildford, ready for the challenges of another half term, already looking forward to the next weekend away.
